Stupid Q about 2 stroke oil

Excuse my ignorance.

Going to take the boat out tomorrow for a shake down. Do I need 2 stroke oil that is marine grade? or is it all the same stuff?

oils aint olis

hey mate
2 stroke oils are very much the same and they can both be used but the utboard oil is a little better than the other stuff its like your car v8 supercars use top oil and normal cars just use what the get from the shop so its ok to use it it probly the same stuff ne way they just put it in a differant bottle

Some manufacturers go the the extreme of recommending the oil to use - if you don't use it you void your warranty.

Best bet is to use a dedicated marine 2S oil - I've never had a problem with the Yamalube stuff.

I think marine 2 stroke is meant to leave less residue (burns better in the cylinder) and probably has some corrosion resistant properties that standard lawnmower stuff dosn't.

Get the castrol marine stuff shane. I use it in my old jono (similar to yours just a bit bigger)and it probably smokes the least of all the ones I have tried and it dosn't cost that much.

Just change that rusty old spark plug before you go out this time.
I can't believe that one still works
