An arvo in the Swamp with Uncle Larry

EDIT............................. Just turned the the 16 minute snooze fest into 6 minute audio visual thrill ride

Checked out a couple of Google earth ponds the other arvo - figured I should take the camera.

Nothing ground breaking - just a snap shot of the arvo

Thanks Nereus

Nah - one of them was jagged in tail and the other was just bad angling

With the one that was jagged in the tail - I pumped up the drag and was trying to pull it out so I wouldnt have to crawl down the bank and deal with it

But the bigger "line burner" from earlier in the piece was angler error - I was paranoid that I hadnt turned the camera on, so I checked after the first run and put a huge bit of slack in the line.

I have done this before a few times without the hooks falling out - but I was using smaller hooks with micro barbs and he was swimming back towards me when I took up the slack and tried to put some weight on him.

I think the major reason hooks fall out on carp is - if you run your drag too tight, they fight so hard they rip a hole in their lips. I run my drag pretty light in the initial stages to avoid this.

I also find when they are spawning, they seem to be a bit more riled up than usual. So you have to be especially careful on that first and second run. I run tighter drags on bream than I do on carp
