Leebo,
what tackle are you using? An incorrect selection of rod, line, leader or lure can make things much more difficult.

What model is the 6'6' spin rod? Is it graphite?

Also is your 8lbs line braid or mono?

Soft plastics could also help since its winter.

Tackle

Hi Leebo

I have an older Heartland X graphite rod sitting in my cupboard you can have if you like and even some squidgy braid I don't fancy much, give me a PM with some contact details.

Mark

Leebo,
its your rod and line that's killing you. You may be getting bites and don't even know about them. Castings a DohDohDohDohDoh with that tackle too.

At the very least you should replace your mono with 4lbs fireline in pink or bright green. Then you should replace your rod with a graphite model. These start from around $70.

Forget about getting a new reel for the time being. As long as your current reel is working, fireline and graphite rod will put you onto more fish. Even a $1000 reel with your current rod and line won't help.

Lastly there is mountains of info about tackle setup on these forums. Just search and you will find.

6lbs fireline is good to use as well. Your lures are fine, its just you delivery system. Leader size depends on conditions but 6lbs-8lbs is a good start.

Like I said before all this info has been discussed ad naseum in this forum. Use the forum's search functions and you will find HEAPS of stuff to help you out. Rods, reels, lines, leader, knots, lures, techniques, flats fishing in the Swan it's all there.
