Motorguide Xi5 any issues???
Hey guys
just trying to find if anyone has had any issues with the Xi5? We sold one to a customer and he says that it seems to vibrate more than his 6 year old min kota and thinks it was noiser. Also he had issues with the anchor lock having a spaz once or twice. He was at blue rock, so maybe the hills played some part in it? I have one and was very impressed with it. The only issues i had were trying to use the anchor lock in 30knt winds!!! |

Ive heard of some vibration issues in motorguides due to the prop nut and centring of the prop / annode? I havent witnessed this but have heard/read from mates. I think addressing this or adding a hydro-nut has solved the issue. I havent heard anything about anchor lock issues though.

Used one multiple times and love it - seen none of the issues described above. Will be putting one on the new boat also.

Had vibration issues with mine when first purchased. Was the anode or something in the head of thr motor being out of alignment by some miniscule amount. Once realigned all perfect and didn't do any damage to the motor at all. Apart from that mine been perfect. Has spazzed out once on spot lock under a really low bridge whilst chasing jacks. But that's the only time.

so he called past with his boat and we put mine and his next to each other.
They both seemed to do the same thing, which was when turning right, they loaded up slightly more and was slightly noiser. It seems that the it was making more noise through his hull (hornet) compared to my open deck dinghy. Also the vibration may have been made greater by the fact his wasnt flat and tight against the boat and had slight movement up and down. So he was gonna try tighten it again. Great to hear so many positive things about them! |

I had vibration and noise when first set up and used, it seemed to be a humming noise echoed through the hull. I put a three blade water snake prop on mine and fixed both issues.
I have had anchor lock go nuts when I hit the jog feature to many times to quickly and I think I confused it |

Mine would do a spazz at least once a day which was really frustrating.Apparently you cannot hit buttons too closely time wise otherwise it gets confused. The remote foot pedal is really difficult to use especially in bumpy water as it does not allow for minor adjustments. The hand held remote allows minor adjustments but you cannot cast and use it at the same time. For these reasons I sold it after 6 months.Sorry to rain on everyones parade but it is by far the worst electric motor on the market.I came from a Fortrex cable steer as I wanted spot lock.Have since used a terrova and this is a far user friendly motor in all conditions.

Heard of plenty of guys buying an XI5 heard good things .I had a quick go of one the other week . I Found it awkward to use, but I,m a cable steer fan ,through and through .
One thing Ive heard is the the XI5 seem to come with an inbuilt wobble. People have been installing a hydro nut to help get rid of the vibrations |

I'm not conviced they do anything besides look cool. That was enough for me to buy one though. 3 blade props seem to help with the vibration in the Xi5 at high speeds.
