The wrong way to cook up a batch of snapper leads

For all you safety conscious people out there - do not follow my lead.

You need proper gloves - proper face mask and eye wear.

But if you want to see how a maverick approaches the situation - here it is.

Then you're going to need to check your BBQ only to find out all the jets have rusted over and its not working.

So then you are left with a problem of how to heat up the lead - I know - I'll just light a fire with wet scraps of wood from around the house.

The fire is so pissy that you can barely get some coals together to put the sauce pan on - after about an hour you eventually get the lead melted - but it spills over when you left it unattended for 10 mins.

So you say bugger that for a joke and get online and look for alternative heat sources.

But if you are going to have a crack - you need to read all the relevant safety advice for dealing with lead.

Here's a link - But I would suggest further research aswell

Yeah - everytime I'm tempted to buy a new mold that would produce immaculate sinkers - I have to remind myself that I do it this way to save money

So as long as the old mold can produce something heavy that wont cut my line - I cant justify buying a new one.

Ahh Lead poisoning . I always thought the headache was a result of the copious amount of beer and homemade spirits consumed while undergoing this annual event before the big adventure

Yeah I'm a bit of a pussy when it comes to hanging around lead - I stand well back as it melts and try not to breath as I pour. I also wash my hands very thoroughly when all is said and done.

I also forgot to mention that I always check the forecast and radar to make sure no rain is coming - It didnt look like this a few hours ago - if it had - I would've saved the cooking for another day.
