Obviously the lighter the line being used, the less impact each head butt has - but apart from only having to only tie one leader knot a session - the FG's dramatically decreased the amount of guide wraps I was getting.

All my rods are lower end, off the shelf, units - and the differences between the knots performances was quite easy to identify.

But before tying the FG's I would blame wind knots and guide wraps on my cheap old gear - turns out that wasnt entirely true - I'd just been tying the wrong knot
There are solutions re braid, leader, rod guides, reels and knots.
Another way around it is to use a casting fluorocarbon line all the way through, only one knot at the end.
