This is a great scenario

2 x 7' 6" rods 2000 size reel , 1kg braid 21' of 3lb Rock.
#1 squirrel black eye suspendining. Tuned right there with fine lead wire to just lift oh so slowly absolutely flat horizontal. Method jerk pause at top to bottom
This is my distance rig in flat calm mirror water...21' of flurocarbon because it will sink

#2 same rod, reel and line with a mini bent minnow from Gippsland in clear again tuned on site to just sink, again dead flat horizontal.
Throat and anus area painted with a wipe of baked fluro orange nail polish. Method dying minnow not on but skimming just under the surface and burying deeper jerk style.

Rods are Majorcraft with white top section thin as a nibble tip.

Toss out a poly float to determine flow direction and speed.
Set tactics to keep me up current.

A Sammy 55 in Kitokito Shrimp, followed closely by a Bent 76 in HH86. You can feel the humidity building as the sweat rolls down your face and the anticipation of a strike builds...love it.

I'd work it almost completely on the surface, mainly because I want to see the action. I'd cast it out and give it a quick, deep wiggle, to let them know it was there, then I'd let it surface, then I would then give it a series of tiny twitches between pauses. That usually get's 'em all fired up.

I know it gets me all fired up just thinking about it.
I have been thinking on the bent minnow middle hook with assist hooks trailing. Sounds like an excellent modificatinn plan to give it a go..........thanks for sharing.

Before Bent Minnows came along, I used to use Smith Towadi's as my 'go to' surface lure. These small walk-the-dog lures work really well on bream. In fact, over the years I've probably caught more on Towardi lures than any other surface lure, including Bents.

I'm pretty sure that Bent Minnows attract larger bream though. Maybe it has something to do with their 76mm size.

This year I'm trying out some new Daiwa Slippery Dog, walk-the-dog style lures. I'm yet to find a scenario like the OP though. Being a bit bigger than my old Towadi's, they might appeal to some bigger specimens. I really enjoy using walk the dog lures.

That's one very effective lure and also a very effective colour as well, I must admit. If it wasn't for the pure excitement of catching bream on the surface, it could well be my 1st choice too.

Used the OSP for a while, Mark at the Bemm was unloading some Hurricanes that had not sold. One colour looked ok so I bought it. Did not produce at the Bemm but a couple of weeks later had good EP's out of the Glenelg.
Was drifting and casting at snags etc. By chance found myself over the edge of the first shef in around 1.2m.....cast parallel and up river on the start of a run out....nothing!!
Cast down current an sank the Hurricane then paused tritch pause twitch and bang!

Produced many EP's over the next few days as did a SX40lc ecogear.

The Daiwa slippery dogs are pretty decent too. Having some success with the clown colour on whiting and bream.
