Hey mate
Im from warrnambool so have fished the river several times a week for a few years. This past year has been really good. At the moment, fish are beginning to school up in deeper water, from jubilee park down to around Deakin. Ive managed a few good bream and ep to 44 in the last month or so, on zman grubs, cranka crabs and laydowns, casting on the edges, but they will be getting deeper. A month or two ago, there was very good schools of fish around the front of Deakin uni, and nearly everyone fishing the area with grubs and cranks were picking up several fish over 40. Over summer, the flats down the lower end fish well, as does the upper end towards tooram. This past summer I was averaging 20+ fish a trip land based, best afternoon was a count of 47 bream and about 15 salmon. In the summer, fishing shallow water on the evenings with shallows hards and bents goes well on bream and ep. Early morning sessions can have some fantastic sight fishing too, concentrate on the rocky edges. And freshwater sections below the falls have some great ep fishing too, mainly from December to june. At night, the Eps and mulloway come on big time, and on the right night, some land up over 50 eps in just a few hours, if you're lucky enough to come across such a school. Try the lower end with paddle tail plastics and blades, especially if the mouth has recently opened. As winter draws on, expect the bream and perch to head towards the mouth for spawning. Blades and heavy plastics are the go, looking for fish on the sounder, generally from the ski run to the bluehole.

The gear I run for bream is generally a 1000- 2000 reel, light typical bream gear. For mulloway and bigger perch, I also like a light bait caster or heavier spin. 4lb leader is plenty for most bream, but upgrade to 8 if you're in heavy rocks or snaggy areas, such as the reefs scattered through the river. Best lures include motor oil grubs, bent minnows, mx48s, cranks crabs, slim swims, most bream lures should work.

And thats just the beginning to this excellent system

Hope this helps
