Vic Mulloway movements
It was a busy weekend with three new recaptures recorded across the state! Shane Greaves tagged an 85 cm Mulloway from the Patterson River back in May, that was recaptured by Luke Calleja a few days ago near the mouth of the Yarra River, measuring 90 cm. The fish covered more than 40 km which is the most substantial movement we've seen so far! There's been anecdotal evidence of Mulloway moving between the major estuaries in Port Phillip Bay throughout the year, so its great to confirm this.
The second recapture was a 45 cm fish tagged in the Hopkins River in January by Mark Gercovich, that was recently recaptured in the Hopkins by Andrew Meade. During the 11 months at liberty, the fish grew a whopping 17 cm and covered a distance of at least 10 km, traveling from the Allansford area down to the mouth.
Finally, we've recorded our 16th recapture for the Glenelg River. Shane Murphy tagged a 59 cm Mulloway in June, which was recaptured yesterday by Rob Jeoffery, some 3 km downstream near Taylors Straight, measuring 62 cm.
Thanks to all the anglers involved! Please feel free to share this post on other Facebook pages or your own. The more people that know about the project the better
