Did you just buy a glue gun and want to test its capabilities......are you equally adept with a dremel and a heat gun.........

And by coincidence, are you also a world renowned PVC pipe artist.

If you were - this is what would have happened on lunch break

got a call from a mate saying he wanted a crash course in how to catch undersized pinkies and flatties on plastics. I said - I'm your man.

But there were a couple of problems that needed sorting

Number one ........- I've cut most of the butts short on my rods - and if we were going to have a couple of squid lines out - I wanted to be sure my rods wouldnt be pulled out of his snapper racks.

A few squirts with the dremel was all it took to find the solution.

Each tube fits inside a snapper rack and can be duct taped into position- Not completely original but I cut notches top and bottom for left or right handed use

The other problem is his cabin has a habit of catching the wind and acting as a sail while drifting.

Nothing a 20 litre bucket on a rope couldnt fix - or so I thought - turns out a 100l bucket would have had the desired effect

Its still stopped the boat from spinning and catching the wind but it wasnt all that effective as a drogue

Cut a 5 inch hole in the bottom and stick a small foam ball on a rope with a meter wprth of rope tied to it and then that to the end of the bucket so that it keeps it from sinking too deep into the water...

That'll fix any issues.

Does cutting a hole in the bucket increase its drag?

It was tracking straight and there was a fair bit of breeze so it wasnt sinking. But the float does sound like a good idea

The boat weighs 2.5 tonne so I'm thinking something bigger might be required.

It allows slow water passage rather than filling up and a flat face force, otherwise they'd be a flat object than a pocket with a hole of sorts.

Needs to have a hole mate.

Thanks for that - My research on this particular project was limited to looking at some photo's on google images, I should have kept scrolling down for the ones with holes in them

P.s. I'm still interested to know if putting a hole in the bucket increases drag. Or is it just to stabilise the bucket

Coz my brain keep telling me a hole in the bucket would decrease its stopping power - and the bigger the hole the less effective it would be at slowing a boat down. Is there a sweet spot where some weird phenomena kicks in.

My science knowledge on this subject is limited to dragging a net through the water - small holes -hard to pull - big holes - easy to pull

I'm more than willing to accept that this isnt a firm grasp of the intricacies of hydrodynamics
