The hammer is just to calm them down a bit and the claw slips under the gills for mess free transport

No vids unfortunately

But I decided that ironing board was too good to leave by the creek

Yeah I got a taste if that on a Facebook page. Only one bloke out of 100s took issue with it but I was accused of “wanton cruelty” “immorality” “barbarism” and lots of other flowery language

I asked him to provide a method that gives a faster kill to a carp than a hammer blow but he just wouldnt recognise, that although it looks brutal, It’s actually the kindest way to finish them off.

Seriously

If you haven’t tried a rubber filleting mat. Just get one. All theses year I’ve been chasing fish around slippery filleting tables... never realising there was a better way

Just having a fish stay still and even offer a bit of resistance against the knife was an eye opener

The mat looks a great idea. I'm grabbing one for sure.
Have you tried skinning on it too?
Also, would you have a link for where you got it from?

Yeah I tried skinning that carp on it - its doable but I still prefer a completely flat table surface for that.

(which is annoying because it reminds you how slippery fish can be when they arent on the mat) - but a couple of those metal clamps would make skinning a delight.

heres the stainless steel clamp link aswell

If I could only buy one option, I reckon those spring loaded metal clamps might offer the most benefit over all. (if you take skinning into account) But the mat is portable and can be taken to different tables

But I spose you can also just buy or make a clamp board for skinning. So theres a few options to consider
