The numbers don't mean anything to me however I had a look at my model number which is only 1 number different 941700081. This is the pinpoint 55 with a 48" shaft purchase in 2016. The serial number is simply just that although the first digits are the same 9D284291 I would think simply a numeric identification.

Perhaps instead of bashing your head against the wall ring Mercury the distributer or the service office 03 97915822 Never know this may cause you to bash your head even harder.

Thanks Sevric
Tried my local agent who as yet has not responded.
Looked for a contact number for Mercury / Motorguide without any success.
So the information you've provided is VERY useful to me

Thanks again

So a bit of an update incase anyone comes across a similar question.
I contacted Mercury yesterday not expecting much but was pleasantly surprised by just how helpful the person was. Didnt even seem like it was a hassle for him. You know the usual type, sure i can get that for you said in a tone n manner suggesting, "do you know I'm supposed to be at lunch?
Anyhow this fellow was the exact opposite. Polite n seemingly interested.
So if anyone else is interested, it is indeed a 55lb'r with 54" shaft with pinpoint and thanks to also having a serial number , learned that its a locally purchased unit still under warranty.
Thanks again sevric. I honestly thought I'd have to make a decision on this motor blindly.

What exactly were you trying to achieve by the serial numbers?
Did you buy this unit second hand? Or did it come already fitted on a boat purchase?

FWIW.
On the trolling motor head it should say what LB thrust and what volt model it is
The units came with GPS and non GPS models with an Option to buy the GPS module separately and convert a non GPS model to a GPS model
You can tell if it’s a GPS model (or has been converted) by looking at the flex wires going from the head to the Main unit
The GPS equipped or converted units will have the GPS module wires interwoven into the flex wires that go from the head to the gearbox.
Non GPS models just had the standard flex wire like any other trolling motor from head to Main unit.
Shaft length can be measured by measuring tape.
Fairly sure the remotes are also different.
Cheers

Didn't do much to help but glad you found the information you were looking for. If it is any help I would comment that the Motorguide pinpoints run rings around the competition, had the Watersnakes, Minn Kota and Motorguide over extended periods and the Motorguide Pinpoints win hands down.
