Problems With Welds Cracking On Quintrex Hornets?

G'day all,

As the title suggests, I'm wondering how many of you out there, have experienced problems with welds cracking on your Quintrex Hornets and what have you all done to help rectify the problem?

Asking, as I have recently been having conversations with other Hornet owners and it seems that this is a common occurrence?

Would like to hear peoples experience on this topic!

Regards,
Sexton.

I had a small crack under the drain plug.

Basically they ground the weld too much. Was repaired under warranty and no dramas since. Aside from that the boat has been awesome.

Mine is a 2013 5 meter hornet.

Seems to be very common man, I have 4 mates who have had their hornets crack in the last 3 weeks! And many others who have had dramas!

One of the guys has only had his rig for 8 months too

All in different spots too.

I personally don't own a Quinny but after seeing this problem first hand I will certainly not buy one in future!

Was the main reason I stayed away from Quintrex myself. Countless mates have had issues and a friend that was working for Quintrex said the amount of repairs was unbelievable all for cracked welds.

mine 2005 hornet is fine mate, and i give it everything in sloppy conditions. personally i dont think its a fault with the model, any tinny may crack when pushed to the limits. as for the countless repairs, they are the most popular brand around. imo still the best riding punt on the market

I know of a mate that has had his hornet in with warranty repairs at least on three different occasions. And another mate with no issues. Different sizes though.

Not a hornet, but my explorer trophy has experienced several cracked welds along the keel. Originally repaired under warranty, but They cracked again after the warranty expired and I had to folk out over $1500 to have extra ribs installed and extra rollers added to the trailer to help prevent further cracking. It seems to have fixed the problem, for now. Now I'm having issues with electrolysis in the boat and have had to spot weld several holes appearing along the ribs.

Needless to say I will never touch another Quintrex again.

Cheers,
Corey.

Interesting you mention trailers. Not sure how good rollers are with aluminium. Pretty sure I recall my old man years ago pointing out the point stress created by rollers as the boat bounces all the way to the water and home again. Quite a bit of flex that is likely to do its bit much the same as slapping chop and water impact.

Not a Hornet, but our Quintrex Punt has cracked almost 4 ribs in the boat, almost every time on the ribs. Dads a Sheety so repaired them every time, and has since put support brackets and welds over the trouble area!

I've heard so many horror stories about quintrex's, Gaggas being one. I'd steer clear.

A mate has just discovered not long ago that the ribs in his 03 445 hornet have cracked under the front floor and have completely dislodged from the hull.

He was told that 10 years is a good run for a hornet? Is this true for hornets?
10 years doesn't seem a long time to me?
