structure scan transducer in hobie PA12

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has installed a structure scan transducer in their Hobie PA and can give me a short explanation as to how they have gone about it? Also, do the two transducers need to be mounted separately as to not interfere?

cheers!!

I haven't installed said transducer to a kayak before, but in terms of mounting seperately/together, I believe if you want to be able to do a down scan overlay of the traditional sonar, then the two must be mounted within 30cm of each other.

Correct, but I would not use silicone.

Use shugoo(rebel sports) or marine goop same product but it flows better to get air cavities out.

Make a foam block to surround the transducer and stick that down first, place the shugoo/goop in some hot water to thin the solution first and add around the transducer.
Make sure it is as level as possible so as it reads even left to right and back to front.

Mine is not within 30cm of each other but you get used to the difference on the overlay.

Oh and let it set for several days as it will take a while to set properly.

Perfect mate thanks for this. My 83/200 is mounted through the Lowrance ready system so i should be able to find a spot near enough to that.

Do you find it having to shoot through the plastic impairs the reading or is it not that much of an issue?

I couldn't tell you if there is a difference as its always been mounted this way.
The trick is no air bubbles, thats why the goop needs to be heated in water to make it flow into all areas, heating also helps the air bubbles rise out.

Hey guys, jump on to the Berleypro website and have a look at the TotalScan ready transducer mount/shield.

This allows you to mount a large transducer in the factory Hobie position without drilling any extra holes or hanging a RAM mount over the side.

https://www.berleypro.com/totalscan-ready-testing/

Only thing I'm not sure about is the physical size of the regular structure scan transducer compared to the Totalscan transducer.

Image quality has been excellent I've found. This is the elite 7ti and TotalScan transducer.

What sort of battery life are you getting out of the Ti? Been thinking about upgrading to one myself
