Design Engineer

Hello Everyone,

I've recently moved to Adelaide from the UK and am looking for work.

I'm an experienced Aerospace Design Engineer (19 years) but am happy to work in other industries if necessary. I've spend most of my time using CATIA V5 but am trained on AutoCAD aswell.

I've tried all the main aerospace firms within Adelaide, and am registered with a few agents, but no luck as yet.

If anyone has any leads/ideas I would be very grateful.

Many Thanks,

Labek

Hi Labek,

Should be worth mentioning that there is a fairly large glut of CATIA experienced designers in the market after the general collapse of the automotive industry with most of the design people being qualified in either CATIA or NX (Unigraphics). If you are looking for a bit of work then have a chat to the guys at Cornell Design in the Adelaide office. They are very well regarded about town and despite you not having experience in the software they use - Solidworks and Inventor - you may be able to leverage off your experience to encourage them to take you on board. Even if they can't utilise you they may have a lead or two for you to followup.

You will find that SA is pretty well entrenched with the Autodesk line of products for some weird reason so your CATIA could be of limited value there. Have you considered getting in touch with Dassault Systemes themselves and seeing if they could possibly use you in their technical department?

Good luck mate,
Ross

Hi Labek, welcome to the site.

As for the SA based, the obvious choces for you might be the Maritime and Aerospace capabilities in general and perhaps the placement at ASC in particular.

Good luck with your search. Hopefully it won't take long for you to find a suitable position.

Let us know how it went

Cheers,
Alex

Many Thanks for the replies Gents!

@Ross, I didn't realise that CATIA was used within the auto industry over here, although I did know that things for the industry had taken a turn for the worse recently so I was told to concentrate on other areas.
I had a look at Cornell Design and sent my CV to them today, so will see if anything happens... Sounds a great place.
I did work with a ex-Dassault Systemes instructor who did me a favour and used his contacts to request some info about work over here, but came back with nothing.

@Alex, I have applied for a few Defence jobs, but they seem to require either security clearance, Australian citizenship or ask you to work elsewhere within Australia, which with a small child isn't really an option at the moment, but I will certainly keep my eye on that site, cheers :-)

Thanks again guys for your help, I'll keep you updated
