sounds like Pykes Creek Reservior (between Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat) it has trout and redfin but can be a very tough fishery at times and full of small fish!!

About 15km out of Bacchus Marsh is Pykes creek Reservoir, you go over it on the bridge and the dam wall is on the left hand side (Ballarat bound). Small redfin and carp in here. The odd trout but they are few and very very far between.

About 5km past Ballan (Ballarat bound) Is Bostock reservoir, you can only just see this from the highway. Recently been stocked with rainbows and browns, as it dried up with the recent droughts. Pretty tough to fish but you do come across a few reddies.

The just out of Ballarat is Burrumbete. Used to have the biggest redfin in the state, but completely dried up during the drought. Is full now, but not too sure if it has been stocked.

Was completely dry last year, and According to fisheries it hasn't been stocked with any fish yet. You would be better off fishing Lake Wendouree in the heart of Ballarat or detouring via Newlyn and Hepburn Lagoon as they have just been stocked with a significant number of easy to catch Rainbows!
