Are Black Bream really harder to catch than Yellow ?
Judging from all the different posts and catches etc, would it be fair to say that the Black Bream are Harder to Catch than the yellows, or is it just less people fishing for them, or a different technique required. The Blacks just seem to shut down quite often. Even Paul from IFish alluded to it when he was up in Queensland and was able to catch that yellow bream on the finger line . Not trying to start a fight, just interested thats all. I cant imagine catching a Bream like that down here in Melbourne Docklands.

you listen to paul worsteling?
black bream may like a slower retrive with a bit more pause time but I dont think that yellows are at all simple... possibly he was talkin about bait fishing for yellows, he seems to like that stuff, well allmost as much as waving the fishes tail at the camera LOL +maybe he got confused with the suicidal pikey bream up north... those buggers eat barra/jack lures! Personally I find blacks harder to catch than yellows. Theres Just something that makes the Yellows a bit more aggressive than blacks. Don't get me wrong though, blacks can get pretty dam aggressive at times but I find it a bit easier to catch yellows. Blacks require more finesse or slower retrieves and longer pauses imo

In my opinion blacks seem to have more of those days where they just aren't interested in whatever you throw at them.

They are different but I think the system makes more of a difference than the species. e.g. Structure, Where the fish are holding, Angling pressure, etc.
I think if you are used to Blacks (like me), you'll struggle with yellows and vice versa until you figure them out. |

Yellows are for kids on the sunshine coast.
Blacks are a test of a man's patience and skill. |

Kids on the sunshine coast have much better and more challenging estuary fish to target and usually grow out of bream by the age of 12.

Lol great posts hehe. I think they are pretty much confirming what i suspected. They seem very frustrating, fishing plastics slow is frustrating, and they seem to be shut down more often than not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrOVVnK0TMo I couldnt find the Ifish one, but these guys arent even using a line lol. If you went from bait and whatever kind of fishing the derwent river to cranking the gold coast broadwater like I did you would think for sure yellowfin are harder to catch. And just my opinion, having to fight off jacks, trevally and dusky flathead in between bream makes it that much harder and more frustrating.

Worsteling has the life! Don't bag him, even he admits repeatedly he sucks, gotta like him for that at least but lets be honest he's probly caught more fish than most of us would dream of and locations well don't get me started!
Yep blacks way fussier. Feast or famine at times...... I'm deep into famine lately need a 40+ southern black soon or I'll crack! |

Good on him for putting himself and the sport out there, regardless of marketing etc.
Yeah no doubt the Blacks are very frustrating. |

in my time catching yellows and blacks
Tip 1 Yellowfin bream school when young and are more agressive to get to the bait first ...hence following surface lures when you see more than one behind the lure .. but as they get older they hang back from the pack and get three times the snacks in scraps. (Quick retrive or twitch twitch retrive) Tip 2 Blacks seem to mooch (wander around) more in search of food as the waterways are slower (inflow) than in N.S.W and Queensland (except in syd harbour and the gold coast cannels or in morton bay (but can have there moments.) but if the pickings are thin or there are more than one big bream in the area first in first gets the feed.. (slow retrive with pause or constance but very slow retrive seems to work) that's my two cents worth...
