I'm quite please with this simple invention. $5 bait board that also holds my pliers. Used self tapping screws but that failed so added bolts to get it secure.
That is beautiful - I respect a man who isnt afraid to drill holes in a boat for home brewed inventions - most of my stuff was screwed in with non stainless self tapping chip board screws.

I use bigger Fids, 10-18mm dia., for putting loops into my climbing ropes. A really handy tool.

Have you ever used cheap heat shrink like this sort of stuff? I've never used any sort of heat shrink so I dont know whether to pull the trigger on this stuff or not.

You've seen the quality of the stuff I come up with - This heat shrink may not suit your needs but do you reckon it would suit mine

Just had a look around on some forums and it seems the main disadvantages with the ebay heat shrink are as follows.

It doesnt have any adhesive inside it

Its made of thinner material so its less durable

It wont have any UV inhibitors to protect it from the sun.

But apart from those minor details - alot of blokes say they have used it for years without problems

Sound perfect for me - sold

I get my heat-shrink from Middys, it comes in 1 metre lengths for about $5. If you want the adhesive, it's hard to get in small sizes. I just use a hot-glue stick, heat it with a lighter, put it where it's needed, put the heat-shrink over it, then heat it... works a treat.

I also use it on my shark wires and hooks to reduce the amount of exposed metal. Probably doesn't make any difference, but it wont hurt,

Yeah I need to look into this hot glue for some aquarium projects I've got coming up (PVC Pipe Yabbie Huts with rocks stuck to them) so that will come in handy

I'm also going to catch a shark out of the docks this year so I had that in the back of my mind while buying the heat shrink aswell. I've been bitten off twice - its time to get serious.

About three years ago I was talking to the security guy at the marina at Lorimer St., he was saying there were a couple of Bronzies cruising there over a few nights. Quite a lot of old timers talk of sharks in the Yarra. We get seals, Dolpins stingrays, squid etc., no reason there wouldn't be sharks too.

Yeah I've watched line spill off my bait runner in a variety of different ways in the docks, over the years. But I rarely see it gradually click off slowly a metre at a time - then stop - then 30cm - then stop - then 2m - then stop. Like something big and slow is hovering up your burley trail. Actually I've only seen it twice

I would have called them for stingrays if the 40lb mono hadnt been cut like cotton before taking even a grunt of fighting drag.

Yeah I bumped into that security guard shortly after it happened - I brought up that I thought there were sharks in the Yarra and he said he's seen them at night with his dolphin torch - he is in no doubt the sharks are there - and I'm sure enough to give them a crack

Not very innovative, but saw these 'cord twisties' in the electrical section of bunnings and thought they might work for a cheapo rod stand.

Stick it to a shelf and she's good to go.

$4.xx for 5.

Simple, elegant, unobtrusive, instant install and does the job for a fraction of the price of the store bought version.

Thats ticking a few boxes

Did you just buy 3 bedside lamps off ebay to illuminate your work space - only to find bed side lamps suck at illuminating work spaces.

Then when you were riding past a junk pile you spotted a busted pivot lamp but grabbed it just in case it the bulb was still working.

I did.

It took a bit of head scratching to come up with a fix but I nailed it in the end.

A couple of bits of PVC and some black spray paint did the trick
