Does anyone run lithium batteries
Just wondering if anyone is using lithium batteries?
Heard they're not real safe and wondering if they're worth the money?? Cheers |

The general use of lithium batteries is safe. The important part is the charging of them, using a charger that is intended to be used for lithium batteries.
Lot's of advantages which include, density of weight. The amount you can safely discharge them. You can usually (depending on which chemistry type) discharge them down to about 20-30% of total capacity, deep cycle like AGM really shouldn't be discharged below 60% and even that is usually hurting them. So a 120AH AGM would probably give you a similar run time as a lithium 60AH. Cycle life. Plenty of others but these are just a few. The biggest issue is really the price, still expensive but with the cycle life you would probably be still better off with Lithium than AGM's (or other deep cycles). There is a new way they form cells using Graphene technology which gives advantages over most of the current Lithium batteries. I am not sure it has filtered down into larger 12v style batteries yet though. This graphene technology gives advantages including more cycle life, higher discharge, faster charging better density. There are a few different types of chemistry and they each have advantages/disadvantages over each other. One thing that often runs true with lithium is that cheap is usually just that, cheap. Research some trusted brands that have warranties that stand up and good reputations. |
