Only a couple of small bits but was a good arvo tinkering around.
My native kayak trolley snapped and axle so i bought a sea to summit cart. That was DohDohDohDoh. So i added the black bit from one cart to the other. Beautiful! I also wanted a short pole for my kayak. One end to grab tree branches etc and the other to put a lure retriever on. Hey presto! |

That hound looks hard to impress but I'm digging it - 2 innovations in one arvo is a good day for any innovator

when I use to canoe fish the paddle was the lure retriever, if I was snagged on the bottom just hold the line tight and run the paddle along the leader underwater till I could smack it off, a groove cut into the end of the paddle made it heaps easier.

Ive done that on occasions. Only thing i dont like about that is running a scratched up paddle blade down light fluro leading might not be the best for it. Plus i keep my paddle in the paddle holders out the back...its easier for me to just have a short stick sitting on the deck.

I had to do some repairs to a couple of rods, so I decided to drag out my rod lathe. While it was out I thought I'd share it here.
I'd found an old sewing machine motor and thought I could use it as a rod lathe...here's how it finished up.

The head unit is a few pulleys scrounged from some old kids toy wheels, with a couple of "O" rings as belts. It's got a foot pedal for variable speeds. The rod mount is a bit of PVC pipe with adjustable screws to centre the rod.

The roller bizzo is just an old set of old rollerblade wheels, mounted onto some steel framework.
The whole unit works a treat...just the thing with winter approaching...!

I had some wheels left over, so I made a smaller roller support for longer one-piece rods and surf rods.

Thanks mate. It's funny how you randomly find something, like a sewing machine motor, and straight away you know what you are going to turn it into.
