Knot to connect leader to lure

hey guys
Ive been having issues tying my leader (6lbFc) to lures with it busting off nearly everytime i try to tie it.
I just do a locked blood knot or half blood knot
(through the eye, wrap 4-6 times and back though)

Works on everyother type of line i have, but always seems to snap off at the knot or the lure when i tie it. If i go up to 8lb it seems fine.

Any help?

Sounds to me like an issue with that particular line and not the knots as they are proven knots. Go into your local and ask them if you can test another of the same spool with a single knot. They should accommodate you.

Half blood knot works for me with FC Rock down to 4lb.
Just use plenty of spit and pull it up slow.
If that doesn't help, try a uni and see how that goes.

Sharp edge on a split ring can do it also.

Uni Knot

The Uni Knot has never slipped on me before and is a very fast knot to tie after some practice. Try taking the split rings off the bib it allows the lure to swim more freely and makes the knot a tiny bit easier to tie because the split rings aren't moving everywhere.
Hope this helps

This is what I use if I am not using a lure clip. I also remove the split ring.

Try tying the locked blood with 3 twists only, that will help it's strength.

Where exactly is the knot breaking.

Just above the knot or in the loop that goes through the lure. Are you left with a little pig-tail of line at the end of your leader.

Is it breaking while snagged - fighting fish or casting.

From my reading, a half blood is actually stronger than a locked blood. But they both have to be tightened with more care than other knots (I've found). Proper lubrication and making sure the wraps stay in alignment and really snugging it down with smooth even tension so it pins your tag end firmly.

If you could take a macro shot of your knot and include the brand of the leader it might answer some questions - then again you may just had some dud line.

I just use uni-knots to attach lures - they will break - but only when I want them to

You cant test your knots with cheap ebay digital luggage scales. The scales teach you the importance of not rushing your knots - not being jerky and lubricating every part of the line that will receive friction. I used to have all sorts of problems with half blood knots coming undone before I started testing them. (turns out I wasnt pulling them tight enough)

Taking macro shots also lets you see any imperfections in your tying method, (bunched line wraps and tag ends exiting the knot at the wrong angle etc) - then when you test the knot, you have a good idea why it broke before it should.

It may seem like a bit of stuffing around but its nice to know that you're doing everything right

I tie a knot at the end of me leader and then do a locked blood knot or half blood knot, not had 1 come undone, weather from 2lb through to 6lb...no issues.

Il have to have a play around and see what happens.

Thanks for the list of knots too. Sadly knots have never been a strength of mine.

Agreed, only time it's happened to me this has been the reason.
