Pretty lightweight... Dunno bout that statement, perhaps in regards to Daiwa's range but not overall. For example Shimano have for many years held compact size 3000's sub 200g

That being said robust wise, I think given the features of the battler, I'm actually looking forward to feeling one in the hand.

Shimano 3000's and daiwa 3000's are two completely different sized reels internally and spool size.

sorry was comparing them to the lower end of the daiwa scale, that has 2000 sizes.
but also as LC has mentioned. its more fair to compare a shimano 3000 to a daiwa 2500

I like having a 2000 sized reel instead of a 2004, if you want a bream reel then just use backing. Up in Hervey Bay here there is so much bycatch so it is very important for me to have the extra spool capacity to handle some of these bigger fish such as 1m+ Flattys, Trevally and 1m+ Barra.

Very true, and as such the original statement is still true. Shimano C3000's are 195g vs Daiwa Battler 2500 at 205g (shimano product being much older model)... Must admit I'm in preference of 2500 shimano's for the stuff I do or likewise the Compact 3000's that are the same size as a 2500 shim with the drag and capability of a 3000 size... but the daiwa 2000 is a sweet size. I just tend to think we never retrospectively look at the other offerings that hagve been had on the market to form an objective opinion. Easy to get caught up in the new tech and models at times.

It's a secret. Benny boy knows all when he is not digging into a tub of icecream in bed.

I had a feel of the daiwa silverwolf rods and reels in both s and z models. The z model has already been shown, feels like an exist, and the rod is ags and was quick recovery etc.. the s range was a lower model and looked like it had the metal body of the freams (strange..), coloured in red and blue with a small eva grip like on the Sol. The rod was also red and blue with kr guides. Looks like a neat piece of kit, which will hopefully be at a similar price to the current freams too. There was a big difference in the solidness of the reels between the s and z models, and there is a noticeable difference in weight between the s and z combos as well.
