Reel designed for Winter gloves
I know its out of season but here it is anyway
I was obsessed with finding the ultimate winter fishing glove a while back and I hadnt even considered that my little reels were the problem Turns out Ice fisherman have had the problem sorted for ages - super long stems mean you can wear what ever gloves you like - not sure how they cast though |

Exposing them to the cold night air, when a lazy southerly is blowing up the river, has not worked out well. |

Sounds sinister.I assume your winter fishing took place in Canada or Russia

And if you dont catch - your mind tends to wander back to how cold you are. And my situation is a little unique, in that I ride my bike to about 5 different spots in a session - so I have to avoid working up a sweat between spots because sweat doesnt dry in winter. And when sweat cools down it gets pretty icy out there. So I try to cut a fine line between not sweating and being warm enough - which is very difficult to do in the depths of winter. Especially for a bloke who sweats a bit. So I'm sure if I could keep my core warmer - the extremities wouldnt be such a problem - but due to the unusual set of circumstances it becomes more difficult to get the balance right. I've fished out of a Kayak at 4am - 0 degrees with wet feet and shorts - but thats no where near as cold as 8 degrees and a stiff southerly, while standing relatively still with sweat cooling you down, at 10pm And its my fingers - particularly the index finger on my right hand that get the coldest. |

I recently got a pair of these bad boys. Simms exstream foldover mits
Haven’t used them in severe cold, but they seem to go alright in Sydney cold I think there may be an individual finger model available as well

Yeah I've tried a heap of different styles - some were warm enough but too fat for my short stem reels - Thats why I got enthused when I saw long stemmed reels

I don't think that stem extension can be a good idea here, simply because it will greatly cut the casting distance due to sharp angle between spool and first guide of the rod.

yeah that was one of my concerns aswell - looks like they tilt the spool so it aligns with the guides a bit better - not sure how it would go on a full size rod though.
