SHimano Sienna warning (another one)
A while back I got my cousin a sienna and was having problems with line being cut or nicked as I pulled line off the spool by hand

Just found a second sharp spot that will cut the line if you strip line off the spool by hand - its right at the base where the bail arm joins - so look out for that one aswell.
Once you know where all the sharp spots are they are easy enough to avoid - but its still annoying - especially when it happens twice in a row before you work it out. I'll be hitting it with some sand paper next time we fish - or should I araldite over the top then sand that |

I'm stunned that that was able to slice through fireline Remove the bail arm and run some real fine sandpaper over it YD.

Run a blade edge over the sharp edge of the bail arm, just to remove the top sharp edge.

Yeah I'm beginning to think I misdiagnosed it the first time - now I reckon its the sharp bit on the bail arm thats doing it

I should state that this only occurs when line is pulled from the reel by hand and the line doesnt run over the line roller |

if braid is pulled off the reel (when stripping line for a respool say) and not sitting on the roller, it can cut into the plastic like a saw. I've done this to one of my spares using it as a line tensioner for another reel. the first spot looks similar to this at a smaller scale. the second thing looks like a manufacturing defect

It was a relief to actually see it fray the line instead of it just snapping straight away. |
