While comments as the above (and one that was posted on this same thread earlier) are, I'm sure, intended in good humour. I believe some tact should be taking place when deciding to post such remarks.

Not everyone on this planet has access to the same level of education and nor is everyone born with the same mental capacity as others.

Too many times I have seen people slayed for the spelling and structure of their posts and frankly I think the moderators should be deleting all such posts, or, even better, the people posting them should think before the courage of being behind a keyboard and not talking to someone face to face takes over.

While these remarks might seem harmless to those writing them, and also to some of those reading them, the people who are on the end of the comments may not think so. As I have said before not everyone is on the same interlectual level, and for those that do have a learning disability of some degree or another or, their reading and writing is not up to "the levels" of others, the pressures associated with this would already make them feel down, anxious, stressed etc about the situation with-out people they probably hardly know or don't know at all giving them sh1t about.

Peolpe need to think before they type, this is a public forum and alot of people read what goes on here. Would you say this to the persons face while 100 plus people are standing around watching?...probably not. One, you wouldn't have the guts too, two, you wouldn't because you know it is wrong and three, there would be more than one person coming up to you and telling you not to be such an idiot.

Some poor kid, or adult, doesn't need the added stresses of being publicly humiliated by those who think they are being funny but are clearly not.

This is not aimed entirely at the people posting on this thread but also those that have made such comments in past.

Phil

Fair point Phil, but in this instance I think it is not a literacy issue rather an example of the Gen X crew (me included) having a dig at the Gen Y dudes for using txt/msn lingo instead of real words.

Bt I do agreee tht peeps shood be more thghtful. cya

Good point Phil and must admit I've been guilty of doing this and I apologise to anyone who may have difficulties.

But I have noticed that often the younger members tend to use SMS jargon which being an older bloke I don't understand.

If anyone does have difficulties there are courses to help available to you.

I have fished with themasterrookie and he is a really nice young guy who is starting to come to terms with everthing that is bream fishing. I am a genY and fluent in sms talk but know that it has it's place and to be honest I hardly ever use it

Phil I agree with you mate not everyone get the same opportunities in life with regards to their education. But I think that fishing is one of the great levellers. You don't need a degree to pull in a large fish So themasterrookie should get all the encouragement we can dish out.

I will however say i also get frustrated by the excessive use of SMS talk in some online forums. So Zipman you are not the only one who get frustrated with it (and I understand it).

Yes....but no....but yes

I find it frustrating when people type in SMS talk, it usually pretty easy to tell if people are having issues with the lingo or SMS typing.

Either way fave lures, not the cheapest but my go to lures that work.

Hards

SX40LC in 388
Chubby deep in Brown Suji shrimp and clear suji shrimp
Smith Camion, deadly in very skinny water.
Tiemco stick minnow
Attomic Hardz in the deep divers

Softies

Gulp's in 2inch pepper prawn, 1 1/2 inch worm in motor oil, 3inch smelt in black, 6inch worm in camo and I still like the good old sliders as well.

More important than the lures is where to use them and where, this take time on the water. Always be prepared to try something diffrent and little dab of sfactor tends to help.

Good luck

Very good call bro and I agree totally that themasterrookie and all new people to our sport should get all the ecouragement possible.

I do know that alot of the younger crew type in SMS lingo that's the day and age we live in at the moment..It's more the piss taking when this isn't the case. I have seen it happen alot here and thought it was time something was said.

It is good to see other people in agreement and also being apologetic..Good stuff.

Very well put Phil Jagger, agree completely.

To THEMASTERROOKIE, technique and attention to detail (i.e. quality light weight fluro leaders, knots and quality hooks...etc) will always give you the edge. All the mentioned lures and baits have their place according to the conditions of the day.

As with anything you do, you will only get what you put in.

Regards,

That was the first time I decided to post my reply to the lingo that young geners are using these days.
I answered the way he asked the question thats all. I wasn't taking a piss of him but merely pointing out that it is difficult at times to understand this type of the language.
English is my second language and I am trying to stay away from the insensitive comments I may imply but still believe that there is no place for SMS / texting lingo on public forums.
Phil, I agree with what you are saying to some degree, BUT all he had to do was to hit a spell check button or check the dictionary. It is questionable that themasterrookie belongs to the category of people you described:
Quote: do have a learning disability of some degree or another or, their reading and writing is not up to "the levels" of others, unquote. Otherwise he woul'd have mis-spelt his alias name a few times (too long).

It is all about respect towards the others on the public forum. SMS/Texting style of writing does these kids no good and also, that it why we all went or go to school at some stage of our life - to learn how to read and spell. Just imagine if you receive a Resume from the prospective employee containing "n, tht" and the likes.
I am older than the most here and it takes me twice as much time to just understand what the person's question is if he/she uses this modern lingo.
And btw what his reply was? "Because I am a kid and I can"

Cheers to all
Alex

Not trying to facetious but i believe "BTW" is text talk... I think that using abbreviations are fine in moderation, but an entire sentence in it is a bit much

Anyway TheMasterRookie I would pick 2 or 3 lures to begin with. A little tip would be to work your way through some old posts of catches from where you normally fish (yarra) and see what others have been getting them on. Usually guys are more than happy to divulge the lure and not the spot

Best of luck mate,
Ross

Jackall's are the bomb but the Brown Suji Shrimp is so hard to get a hold of in Bris. My bro orders them in lots of ten now because of that.
