line capacity?
Okay I'm just curious, I understand the line capacity for the epix 20 is 190m / 2 kg, and 4lb fireline comes in 125 yd and 300. My question is will 125 yd of 4 pound fireline fill up the entire spool? The fireline is about 76m short of the line capacity is this length supposed to be taken up by mono backing or is it supposed to be like this?
Sorry I'm asking all these stoopid questions I'm getting the new gear tomorrow and I'm abit curious |

I fill the spool with mono 3/4 of the way up and top shot it with the Fireline. If you do it right, 1 spool of Fireline will do both the spools of the Epix, as you never really get that far into the spool anyway. Hope this helps

Hi'
What I did was fload the spare spool with half the fireline 60 odd mteres and then fill it with backing. Then wind all of the above back to the original spool. Works ffor me. Regards |

Heres an idea that I used recently. Wind your reel of fireline onto your spare spool then fill with mono ontop till it is full. then re tie the mono end onto your good spool then wind from spool to spool. this is a good way to know how much mono to use. I was told at fishing shop that 4lb fireline is about a quarter of the diametre of 4lb mono. so this method saved me a lot of f***ing around. I have a Daiwa Samurai 1500 and it took the whole fireline reel plus about 3/4 of mono.

As far as I know Mike that is the only reason. Don't know about you but filling a spool completely with fireline would be a tad expensive. Plus you would never get to use it all.

I was told besides that you also need backing so the line will grip into the spool, since fireline doesnt have memory it wouldn't grip the spool properly. Guess it makes sense

Hi all
I personally use mono backing becuase 1. Its alot cheaper 2. it grips to the spool much easier, spiderline will but it can be a bugger 3. why go that far , you will never get that far into the spiderline Ok how far has the longest run has a bream ever had. its not really a marlin or tuna. Cheers Stuie |

The reasons are as a backing and to grip the spool. This is particularly crucial on baitcasters. If the line slips on the spool, it renders your drag useless!!!
I filled my samuria2500 with 125m of 6 pound mono then 100mof 4lb fireline and it is still underspooled!!! |

I just usually use the crappiest line that I have lying around and finish off with 50 or so metres of 6lb Maxima and then 125 metres of 4lb Fireline.
