How does "max drag" relate to a jighead?

Prob because the hooks can straighten and it's hard to tell based on size and gauge.

I test my jigheads with scales to see where they begin to straighten.

So max drag relates to the maximum amount of drag they can take before they start to straighten out.

My test crudely simulates a perfect hook up where the strain is taken in the middle of the gape of the hook. And while these hooks can take much more strain before fully straightening - "Max drag" is the pull they can withstand and still maintain their original shape - its a similar idea to Breaking strain in fishing lines

Max drag is probably a clumsy way to describe it - but I know what I meant

Ok

So what is the target species for your 1/8th 2/0 jig head?

Pinkies that need to be air lifted 3m without a net.

The majority of the ones I've been hooking are between 300grams and 2kg. So I wanted to be able to just drag them up with out a net.

When a 2kg unit thrashes in the air, its weight is increased significantly - like when you jump up and down on a set of bathroom scales - so I want a hook that can withstand those forces with a bit to spare.

If jigheads had "Max Drag" ratings on them - I wouldnt have had to buy so many different ones, and test them with my scales to find what I wanted

The 1/0 are very thick and much stronger than necessary but the thinner guage 2/0 offer good hook penetration and the strength I need.

Now I know what my gear is capable of - it cuts down on the guess work.

This is what I'm trying to avoid

Now that I think about it - if they could include the thickness of the wire used in the hooks construction - that would also be appreciated

(the .90 are light TT's and the 1.52 are an ebay jighead that is about 10 times stronger)

Yeah would make buying online much easier - the shank length lets you know which length soft plastics will suit the hook

and when fishing for stuff with hard bony mouths, you want a thin hook that can still do the heavy lifting -p.s. crushing the barb helps with hook penetration
