Funny you should say that is where I saw it .
Been thinking of getting it for my birthday present seeing my kids bought me a voucher from there . I know I'll be paying the majority of it . I just have people telling me don't buy it this one is better but have never used or owned one . But still say it's not good .

At that price point I don't think you can go past a Stradic Ci4
I have an MGX that has been faultless. Not sure about the ALX though.

And I asked your question in one of my posts . All the answers are from people 1 that have never used it and say shimano is better . 2 or they bought the next model up never used it swapped it for shimano . I understand everyone has an opinion but it appears on fishing forums and fishing pages on Facebook. That everyone who have never used for one claim shimano is better . For myself I wanna get a better quality reel . My reels are old I'm using a very old shimano Sienna 1000. Just want a nicer better reel saw this Abu Garcia reel liked it and can now afford it . I don't wish a second hand reel had fun with a symetre 750 Was catching over 30 cm bream on that a Laguna 1000 and my old 1500 Aird Just wanted a newer great quality reel Rant over Now if the bream would come back 😂

At the $248 price point it will be fine.Or if you fish at least 5 days a week through out the year then maybe look for a better quality

Had a flick through Google and only one review on a ALX baitcaster, but i don't trust reviews in every product anyway. This can't be a ALX or nothing situation, you should have a few reels in mind that can do the job to choose from ?

Please read the following sentences Jonnie. My major issue with fishing forums and Facebook fishing pages . When I ask has anyone used this reel every Poster who answers me says NO they haven't so buy a shimano. Now I'm not dumb and I'm not a genius. I won't buy what I don't think will land me bream to 40 cm What I don't understand when no fishers used this reel they all say it's no good buy a shimano. Honestly if they've used it and it was DohDohDohDoh I'd listen .

Ok thanks for the replies .
I've learnt now not to ask a question like this . I've learnt everyone is an expert on these reels with never buying using or even seeing one . And I've always thought asking a question is one way of learning stuff and never hurts to ask . But honestly it was a waste of time to ask a learning question .

I think what you found here in replies is the fact that not too many people own or used this reel personally. The Abu brand was a well respected brand in the past but these days the competition is fierce on the spinning reels market and the range available is pretty wide. The main players are Shimano and Daiwa (as you would already know) and the lack of responses on the ABU ALX reel reflects that. There will always be a few smart people suggesting you buy something else without having any sort of knowledge on the subject, so deal with it (like all of us, me included). But that's the nature of the asking question on the open forum. You would definitely land a 40cm bream on this reel (like any other reel), however you should consider a few extra things when buying the reel in general: 1. Warranty (1, 5 and 10 years) 2. Longevity (materials used and your maintenance and care to factor in) 3. Reliability (quality materials and workmanship), well designed. 4. Popularity, hence the spare parts availability and support from the manufacturer over the years 5. Weight and overall feel (light or geary when rotating the handle) 6. Reel suitability for use in fresh only or salt water, i.e. corrosion resistance 7. Number of ball bearings (the rule of thumb, the more the better as they provide the necessary support to the internals including gears and shafts), which again translates to higher cost 8. Comes with one or two spools 9. The last but not the least: colour scheme (nah, just joking mate) I personally have never used ABU Revo reels so apologies for not been able to help with your original query. Cheers Alex |

Hi Micky You could not ask for a better reply from a non user than what Alex has just given you. In fact his reply would have me questioning any favourable reply from a user. I am sure you will choose the right reel for you. Whatever you decide take your rod in and try your choice on it. That may just be what helps you make up your mind. Regards Dean.
