Swimbait rods

Hey guys,
I'm looking at getting a swimbait/wakebait rod for cod. There's a few options in the majorcraft range that appeal to me, particularly the volkey vkc 702x, as well as a couple of options in the daiwa range but I'm open to new suggestions. Mainly looking to throw baits around the 2oz mark. Also open to suggestions for the reel but I'll start a new thread for that.

Cheers Alex

Also found the palms option the molla 74xhm.
Main concern for the Japanese bass rods is the ability to run heavy leaders

Would highly recommend the gloomis cbr756 for swimbaits/anything bigger than 1oz. It's 6'3" and i typically cast anything from jackall mikeys to evergreen timberflashes on it with ease, just need to take care with heavier weights (2oz plus). Also doubles as an impoundment barra rod up north

I use the Dobyns Champion XP 795SB and it's a nice rod. Easily cast 2oz Bassman Mumblers and heave swimbaits at Copeton on the weekend. I just find the extra length a hassle as it doesn't fit in the rod locker and found that I lose accuracy in casting compared to a shorter rod.

Other cheaper alternates in a specific swimbait rod;

Dobyn's Fury - FR 795SB
7'9" M/H 15-30lb, 1-5oz

Daiwa Tatula Swimbait Rods
TAT76H-SB or TAT76XH-SB

Thanks for the responses I'll look into the dobyns options as well.
I already have a 6'8 12-20lb rod but it max's out on cast weight at 30g and begins to struggle with much heavier. Looking for something to throw mainly 2oz baits but there are a few 3oz baits that I'll use it for as well.

If anyone knows anything about the majorcraft or palms rods (specifically their guides and leader weights they can handle) it would be hugely appreciated.

Cheers Alex

I run the Major Craft Benkei 702H. That mated with a Curado 300e.

BENKEI BAIT MODEL BIC-702H
Length(ft): 7'0"
Lure(oz): 3/8-1.1/2
Line(lb): 12-25lb
Action: REGULAR FAST
WEIHT: 119g

http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/p...-702h-2pc.html

Casted upto 2OZ pretty comfortably. I know its not a "proper" swimbait rod in regards to build design and as it is - great alround rod with good Fuji components.

Be wary of rods with cheaper hardware!

What is the heaviest leader you could comfortably run through the benkei slazmo?

The rod has semi micro guides and it comfortably passes 40lb mono through with a J knot so assuming 60lb can pass through with a FG.
