The last Hand made gaff I made was a concrete sharpened bent BBQ Fork.

It was fine for quickly grabbing keepers before the next set came through.....

But it failed when we needed it most - We had borrowed a mates boat and couldnt find the gaff - so the bent BBQ fork was given its chance to shine - it didnt

We found the real gaff while cleaning the boat after the session.

cut the eye off, heated up the end, bent at 90deg. drilled hole in shaft for the hook to slot into. then bound with thread (rod guide style) and epoxy to finish off.

Nice - I've only recently discovered the strength of the rod binding style - all that thread adds up to quite a strong bond

Hi guys thought instead of posting up some innovative ideas I would call on some of your 'expertise'. I currently have two hand spears but the tips are a little loose (will posts pics of them tonight) I'm wanting to bind them onto the shaft (rod binding style) but I don't know what to use, want to it to be abrasion resistant.

Cheers Alex

you talking about solid shafts with the screw on tips and has that brass head which is glued onto the shaft itself?
