What slack handle movement acceptable in new reel
Took delivery of a new Stradic CI4+ 3000 and am very pleased with how light it is. I haven't bought a new reel for a while and all my old ones have some play in the handle.
What circular slack play in the handle movement should I expect in this new reel. I currently have about 1mm of movement which although does not sound like much, it does slightly effect the smoothness. Does this seem right for this brand new reel? Any advice greatly appreciated. Did not want to accept the reel until I investigated further. Thank |

Left to right slop id say 0.02mm is what "I" like to keep gear lash slop to in my reels - however i have noticed in the FB Ci4+ reels the rotational slop is harder to rid and to find a "happy" place with gear mesh...
Not a fan of those FB's at all... All reels will have some variations in build tollerances between one and another. Very evidently identifiable with shims one reel will have a couple and another may have only one and these will vary in thickness.

Thanks for your response Slazmo. Would you say that 1mm rotational slop is as good as it gets for this reel?

Reel Handle Slop Diagram.jpg You have to have some slop in the gears otherwise you would bind them up and finger the whole gearbox - I recently did my rear diff in my Zook and took out a small amount of slop by tightening the pinions nut - oh my doesnt she drive nice now - but stretch the friendship and take out all slop and you'd be forking out all sorts of bills. Use the reel for a 'X' time and gauge if it gets worse - then you can shim it up with fine adjustments but - as I mentioned before you cant take it all out of those FB's.

Thanks for the reply. Rotational slop is different to those 2 diagrams through isn't it?
