Fishing for bream in wash at beach

I want to fish for yellowfin bream off the beach and would like one advice on how best to go about it. My plan is to lat afternoon early evening when the waves have usually dropped off and to cast into small gutters or on sandy areas around rocks at the end of the beach. I’ve tried this with SPS and ended up with salmon but no bream. I know they are there though because I swim with prescription googles when surfing and like to have a look around when out in the waves. I often see them cruising aro7nd. So my question is, What lures to use and what kind of retrieve? I’d especially like to use to HBs I think, but the challenge is always to keep a contact with the lures on light gear with the water washing the lure around. Better to go heavier or just accept their will be spells where I just have to wait for a quiet patch of water or accept that I need to wind in and start again. Be very interested to. Hear from anyone whose had success getting them.
