Berkley Gulp Weight

Guys has anyone measured how much a gulp jershad 5 and 7 inch weighs
wanting to work out wether or not i can use heavier jigheads on my rod and not go over cast weight rating

Rod rating's aren't exactly gospel. I've had plenty of sticks that were better suited to slightly different casting weights then the manufacturer has listed. A 5/7 inch gulp jerkshad won't matter in the scheme of things. Just go off your jighead weight man.

OK. Thanks its an AGS rod dudnt want to break it using a jerkshad loll
cast weight is 12gm on the rod, not much when fishing for big fish like snapper
should have got a rod with more grunt i think

in saying that i havent used it yet, so it might be perfectly ok

if you're worried about casting weight - get yourself some Jewelers scales off ebay -

For less than the price of a packet of gulps - you'll never have to worry again

Some bigger plastics can get pretty heavy - this one is a 13cm sebile shad style lure and it weighs 18grams

Damn. That is heavy already for a 3 or 4 inch minnow.
So the 7 inch will be almost 10gm by itself
That's a big eye opener for sure.

Funny enough my old rod was 5gm cast weight and i used 1/8th with a 3 and 4 inch gulp most times without a problem

YEAH once ive got it, ill do some weights on most lures i use and put it up incase anyone wanted it.

im guessing a stated casting weight on a rod is the max weight combined (lure + jighead)
which means many are casting more than recomended weights without knowing loll

Personally I use the max cast weight as a guideline, if you adjust your cast a bit you can cast heavier lures

Maz knows. As I said casting weight isn't gospel, it's more of a guideline. That being said I wasn't aware slimy old gulp weighed that much. 6-7 g's over the stated casting weight might be pushing it a bit.

Yeah as long as you arent doing over head, rapid wrist snap, flat trajectory casts - you can cast some heavy lures with bream gear.

I've gone as heavy as 40gram metals but you have to do an under handed, low swinging, slow loading style cast where the bottom third of the rod does all the heavy lifting.
