What are you going to tie on?

Ok, so it has been a stinking hot day, but now it's an hour before dark and it has cooled off a bit. You're on the flats near the mouth of an estuary, where it's very possible to catch yellowfin, blacks, and sand whiting.

You can see the odd big swirl in the water and you can actually smell the fishy smell in the air. There's no wind and the water's surface is like mercury.

The water is about a metre deep and it's as clear as glass.

What are you going to tie on?

Sounds mint. i'd probably go with a little berkley scumdog (mongrel or the white and green), or an ecogear PX45.

Yeah, I'd probably go for a Bent Minnow too. I'd tie on my ghost ayu one, the one with red silicon legs and assist hooks fitted in the middle, that make it look like a dying minnow with it's guts hanging out. Bream love it. It's completely covered with teeth marks, but it still works perfectly.

I'd work it almost completely on the surface, mainly because I want to see the action. I'd cast it out and give it a quick, deep wiggle, to let them know it was there, then I'd let it surface, then I would then give it a series of tiny twitches between pauses. That usually get's 'em all fired up.

I know it gets me all fired up just thinking about it.

I too would go with a sammy if the fish were shy and a long cast was necessary.
If I didn't need a long cast I'd tie on a pink grub.
