i-Pilot - Foot or Remote?
Hi Guys,
Just wondering if I could have some feedback from the guys who have i-Pilot on whether they use the remote or foot control? Be interested to know how easy it is to fish and move whilst using the remote control by hand? Is the foot control option worth the xtra $200+? Cheers. |

Used a foot control for 4 years and now use a 80lb ipilot with remote. Wouldn't go back to the foot control .. the remote is much easier on a lanyard around your neck I find. Also I'd guess if you wanted the extended controls of the ipilot you'd be using the remote anyway. Try it without one first I say.

You'll need the footpedal if your bream lurin' snags, walls, banks. Bit hard to steer boat away when hooked up with one hand on hand control yet still needing two hands on the rod/reel.

I'm the opposite I love the hand control when you use the cruise control advanced auto pilot function together I find I hardly touch the control at all. When you find a likely snag or drop off hit the anchor button and I pilot will hold the position. A big plus for me is I can use the remote from anywhere in the boat as well. My advice would be try the remote if you feel you need the foot pedal as well just add it on later.

I'm trying to figure out this a well. Can't afford a pedal at the moment but am finding my foot is constantly feeling for the pedal when ever I want to adjust my course. I also would like to be able to ramp up the speed on a dial instead of pressing a button for each half value of speed and change direction with my feet when fishing in close in rough weather

have never used a foot pedal on an electric.shortened the lanyard by a few inches as it was getting in the way.great to be able to fish from anywhere in the boat, and use the spot lock more than anything.

Every time l take my hand off my fishing rod to use my remote is time not spent fishing thought this would be a no brainer really. The remote is handy but not by any means perfect as a soul use navigation tool when fighting fish to safer territory.JMO Up north when fishing reef the ability to get your boat moving to safer ground immediately as opposed to stuffing around with a remote is crucial and this is where the foot pedal slays it.

Dunno I reckon the wrist control was great and I miss it since my housemate thought it was rubbish and threw it out. The pedal just isnt doing it for me. Got to try the grip on the rod next as I hear they are the ultimate. Ive also gone away from the pedal as I find I get very sore feet from standing all day as it is- let alone using a pedal and putting weight on the opposite foot so much.

for me the pedal gets preference,
i only really use the remote for the functions that are only on it, or for the odd occasion when i'm in a tight spot down the back, or under a tree

I have heard that with the remote controls there is a slight delay from when you press a button and the motor responds. With the pedal the response is almost instant as it is connected direcly to the motor with a cable.
Do those with the remotes find this is the case?

no true the hand control response is excellent and almost instant as well. At the end of hte day mate I suppose you could buy the motor try the hand control if you don't like using that grab yourself a pedal.

Like Hooked says, can not see why you would want anything other than foot control, with the remote you need to stop what you are doing where as with the foot control after a while your feet do all of the work as second nature and you fight the fish.
