What are these plastic sticky pieces?
Just wondered what these plastic pieces are for. They came with some of my shimano reels but not others. Thought they might be to protect the reel seat from rash when sitting in their rod holders? (to avoid whats happened in the one picture) I tried one out but it doesn't quite seem to do the job as the end bit does not stick.
Am I doing the right thing with them? P1060310.JPG P1060309.JPG |

For putting over the end of mono on the spool to forgo the need of a line / spool knot.
Problem with them is one end isn't sticky and the stickiness of them as a whole is pretty low, so using them for anything else will be pretty shoty term.

Thanks, that makes more sense. Good to know though as I've been using a bit of electrical tape for the same job, so may as well use these next time. Don't suppose you have a tip on protecting the reel seat from taking a hammering in the rod holder? (i've tried a bit of sticky back foam but it wears away pretty quickly)

I cut up a bit of good quality cotton fabric, similar to Drill cotton.
I cut it into long rectangular strips and drapr it over the rear stationary hood and insert the back foot and then drap over the top foot and clinch the screw down hood and trim any excess. Removing the reel can render the cotton unusable for next time but it seems to be easy enough to do every time when you've pre cut up a whole lot of cotton strips. Duct tape and other stuff tends to leave residue either on the reel foot or inside the reel seat hoods which can attract abrasives like sand etc. For scratches to the reels stem, its easier to put something on the rod holder than it is to do on the reel stem itself amd make last.
