Angry tried to catch a bream in scarborough canals for a few months no luck

hey guys i currently live on a boat in scarborough marina and try and catch bream on lures several times a week but have not had any luck on lures whatsoever besides a flathead. i have even skipped the famous gulp shrimp right in close to the pontoons on a light jighead with no luck. any help would be appreciated guys.

Welcome to the forum, you have come to a good place to start learning a few things about breaming. Hard to help cause i am not familiar with your area although a few basic things that people will need to know to be able to help you out more are:

* What size line/leader you are using and length, water clarity ect?

* What lures you have been chucking at the bream? besides the gulp of course and what techniques you have been using?

* Are there actually Bream where you are fishing?, sounds stupid but if they are
not there you can't catch them

* What sort of structure are you mainly targeting? Presuming jetties, pontoons ect.

There are a lot of yellowfin bream in here as i have caught many in here on chicken and bread. The lures i have used are surecatch poppers, squidgy bugs bloodworm colour, a small diving lure unkown brand, and a berkley walk the dog lure

i use 4 pound mono straight to the jighead/lure

water clarity is fairly dirty and depth around 3m structure pontoons with boats rock walls

Have you tried small wrigglers around the boat hulls and pontoons ect? Just a very light jig head or Hidden weight and let it flutter down. Make sure you cast up very tight to the structure. Hits should come on the drop, this is where i think you might be better of having light braid and a long fluro leader as the braid will help with bite detection. You need to watch your line very closely for any ticks then strike when you see this to set the hook. Otherwise i would recomend some slow sinking vibes around this kind of structure, ie Baby Vibes, Micro Vibes, Cranka Vibes ect ect. Once again a lot of hits will come on the drop. If not short sharp lift or short and slow of the rod tip then drop back down watchng line very closely as it drops.

Hi mate

I would recommend you get yourself some worm hooks, and cast the gulp shrimps unweighted as close as you can to the jetty and let it slowly sink. You'd be sure to get a bream this way. Other than that, Atomic Cranks are awesome and don't hurt the hip pocket too much when starting out and Cranka Cranks are awesome aswell just getting a little dearer.

Any other help needed feel free to send me a PM.

Todd

I fish a rising tide here in Sydney, in canals and anywhere , just remember when the bream were biting when you were catching them on bait, all the lures listed are definitely ones that would go great in your tacklebox
