The only difference in powerbreams log is that Barra would be much bigger. Bream, bass and yella's would look similar.
It doesnt hurt to leave it on shallow setting while you are down near the mouth of the river will still be ok

Powerbream
you could try backing off your sensitivity down on your lowrance SLV could make it look better.

Mcq
The guys are right. Its just changing range scale
Here are 3 things you could play with

Range
Used to select the section of the water column
from surface to bottom shown on the display.
When there is a portion of the water column you
want to focus on, select a range from the Depth
Range menu that includes the desired area.
The values on the Range menu determine the depth
shown on the display. If you selected 20m from the
range menu the unit will display 0-20m of the water
column, regardless of the water depth. There are 21
depth ranges, including automatic and custom settings. The automatic setting will
set the range from the water surface to water depth.
To select a depth range:
1. Press the Range softkey. The Range menu will appear.
2. Use the keypad to select the desired depth. Press the softkey again
to return to normal operation.

Custom Upper and Lower Limits
Controls not only the depth range (lower limit), but
also lets you choose the upper limit. So, instead of
a selecting a range that includes the water surface,
you can choose upper and lower limits anywhere
along the water column. The Upper and Lower
limit must be at least 2 meters apart.
To set Upper and Lower Limits:
1. Select Range and press ENTER.
2. Highlight Custom and press ENTER.
The Upper and Lower Limit window will appear.
3. Select the Upper or Lower Limit dialog box. Press ENTER. The
numerical keypad will appear.
4. Use the keypad to enter the desired value in the corresponding
upper or lower limit dialog box. Press ENTER.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to input the desired limit in the other dialog
box.

Bottom Lock splits the display with a 2X zoom on the left; a normal
sonar view on the right. Keeps the bottom on the screen at all times.

Hope this helps guys .....

Na no good, I just loose the returns. It also happens when I play back a log on the unit itself.

Thanks Steve, so there are no difference in colour between species. I have always though barra have a different colour as there body mass is more dense.

Thanks
Drew

i have an x52 that has managed to get a little water in through the backs of the screws. have had a look at the gut's of it and the circuit board has a bit of corrosion on it and it looks like a diode has been toasted. it will read bottom up to 25 feet deep but loses all trace in anything over that. the transducer is also sending an irregular pinging out and have heard the same from the unit itself. seeing as it is out of warranty is it worth getting it looked at or just toss it?

Hi roscopico70
i think with the unit being faulty you would get unusual pings on your transducer. how far out of warranty is it???
i wouldnt chuck it in the bin i would ring them have a chat maybe send it in and get a quote on a repair as they might be able to fix it or offer you a replacement. give it a go.....
here is there number 1-800-324-1356

Guys this may help a few people

Product Support - Depth Reading Troubleshooting
Here are some solutions that have helped many of our customers.

Losing Depth When the Boat is Moving
This is likely due to turbulence in the water surrounding the transducer. You may need to move the transducer lower in the water or to another location. The transducer cannot send or receive signals through air bubbles.

Losing Depth in Shallow Water
It can be difficult for a high-powered unit to capture the lightning-fast return in shallow water. Turn off the automatic sensitivity setting and manually reduce the sensitivity until the unit locks onto the bottom.

Losing bottom over weeds
When trolling over weed beds in 20ft of water or less, you may experience vertical bars, loss of the chart picture, or the digital depth. First, do a soft reset of the unit.
http://www.lowrance.com.au/apac/Supp...et-Procedures/

Then go to the Full Sonar Chart screen. Press Menu and select Sonar Features. Now turn the Chart Manual Mode to On. This will leave everything in Automatic Mode except the depth. Now go back to the main menu and set the depth range for the depth you are in such as 0-20 feet.

Losing Depth When Another Sonar Unit is On
If two or more sonar units using the same transducer frequency are operating at the same time, one or more of them may lose the depth reading due to interference. It is like two radio stations trying to both broadcast on 97.3FM. In shallow water, if the transducers are far enough apart, you may be able to operate them together. However, the deeper the water, the wider the beams spread out. When they cross each other, the interference occurs.

No Depth Reading at Any Time
Clean the bottom of the transducer. Make sure the beam is shooting down (see picture below). Check your transducer connection to the back of the unit. Check the connector pins for corrosion. Check the cable for frayed or pinched areas.

Phone a Friend
If a friend has the same transducer and power connection on their boat, try your unit on their cables. If your unit works on the other boat, you transducer may need to be replaced.

catch ya

On "The Fishing DVD" - I remember seeing a screen shot of a crocodile on a Lowrance but it was on the standard 2d screen.

Can anyone direct me to a screen shot of what a croc looks like on 3d Side scan.
