Abu Garcia Vanguard 1-3kg
Was going to try pick up a 2-4kg version on sale but they are sold out. Has anyone tried the 1-3kg rod. Just wondering what type of action it is and whether it would be good for surface lures. Havent been able to find out too much about them.

Look out for the 7'3" 3-4kg. Its actually much closer to 2-3kg and a cracker for HB's and surface HB's. More than capable of plastic work too.

Thanks for the tip. What weight lures (lightest) are you able to cast easily with the rod and would you describe it as a fast action?

Probably medium fast. What's nice about it is the transition through the rod is very smooth so the tip comes across as it would in a fast action rod but as you load up the power to the butt comes in very progressively. Hard to bounce fish off but easy to lean on them when needed. No problem with plastics on 1/32 up to4 gram hard body's.
Not many left so a bargain at the moment in a few places. |

Thanks for the help. I've gone and ordered one and sounds it will suit want I want. The action of the rod sounds great. Just out of interest what reel do you use on yours?

I am impressed. Ordered the rod last night and got a confirmation email last night and then an email this morning saying that it has been shipped. At only $165 including delivery I am a happy man. (as long as it arrives!!!!)

Bargain for a $500 rrp rod!
I run a Pflueger Patriarch 9530 with straight though 3lb on one and a Abu Revo Inshore 30 with 6lb Nanofil on the other. Depends on the job at hand. |

I just boughte the 1-3kg - brilliant little rod and great value for money. I'm using surface lures for bream and whiting matched with Stradic CI4 2500.

Same thing I'll be using mine for. Hopefully with me by next weekend to have a crack at some whiting with the surface lures.

What frames are on K guides? Are they titanium or SS? Also for people who have the rod, does it come with lure weight ratings? I checked the Abu Site out, but it's a bit thin on details like lure weights and tapers.

My rod was delivered today. It was tough to get any info on the rod.The k guides are stainless. The rod weighs 109g. Mine is the 3to4 kg rod. The reel seat is pretty close to the end of the butt compared to my other rod. Going to give it a go over the weekend using surface lures targeting whiting. So far it feels like a great rod for the price.

Got out with the new rod today and managed to catch a 36cm whiting on an atomic popper and a 27cm whiting on the new sammy 55 I picked up. Rod was great and loaded up nicely. Also had another big whiting on the popper but it managed to spit the hook after a good fight. Was wading the flats which suited the rod but it might be a bit long when I'm sitting in the yak targeting bream.
