respool on 1003 Certate

I have just purchased a 1003 Certate which needs new line fitted to it. I have not owned any reels with shallow spools before and I want to fit the maximum amount of braid to it . My question is does it still need backing or because of the shallow spool there will be no problems with the braid digging in on itself or use tape on the spool to give the line something to grip on or just load it straight up with braid?

use tape, or if you insist on backing use 4lb mono backing with only a few turns of the handle that's plenty, that's what I have done on all 3 of mine
as for getting as much line on , go for thinner diameter lines (0.6pe) in a 120m spool. you will have left over line in anything above 4lb 150m spools
cheers
