Good thread

Aside from the many things already mentioned I carry:

Small bolt cutters - to assist in getting hooks out of people!!
A second Kota pedal - how many times do these play up.
Gaffer tape - a multitude of uses.
Spare fuses.

Mobile Phone

A must
I was on a charter about 8-10 k back of Rotto with Al
(you probly know him) and we ran out of battery.
No battery = no radio
Flares unansewered by others out there
He managed to ring his missus who rang Sea Rescue
who 2-3h later gave us a jump start

don't leave home without one

Don't want this to die just yet.

Another one you may not have thought of are sounder mounts. Great to get your front sounder off the deck and also for those who don't have a console.

Well if ya gunna have coffee you need the gas hotplate for the cooked breakfast - snaggers, bacon, eggs, hash browns, tomato and mushrooms. Plus a toaster for the burner. No need for the invertor Tony - 12V coffee machines work well

Get two s/steel eyelets attached through the engine mount bolts on the transom , have two hook up points welded to the rear left and right hand side of your trailer so you can use s/steel ratchet tie downs to secure your boat to the trailer and do away with those cumbersome throw over straps, do the same for the front of boat to trailer. Replace cable on winch with plasma rope and never worry about rotten cables or straps for that matter any more. My boat takes me two minutes to get in and out one out, it's a hornet 475, dual axle easy-tow drive on skid with two spare tyres, suspension, leds, never needs touching, except for bearings check, been to Weipa and back over dirt roads that would have destroyed lesser trailers, and boat never moved an inch.

Covers like these for the sounder are a great idea as well. They can be picked up from most tackle stores and are pretty reasonably priced.

Thumbs up Seriously guys!

In all seriousness - heres something a little more "affordable" that breamers might like to consider!

"microtrak".

Yep - a hidden GPS tracker unit stowed away inside your boat where it can't be seen!

You get up one morning and your new bream boats gone!

Too easey!

Pick up the mobile phone - ring your GPS tracker sim card mobile phone number and it tells you it's GPS position!

You give details to plod who arrests the boat theives and gives you your boat back BEFORE they strip it ans ship it east for rebirthing resale!

The biggest thing you gys don't tend to realise is that when this eventually inevitably happens to you - you WILl take a hit in the hip pocket because your insurer likely will not "make you whole again"...

There will be unavoidable losses like gear in your boat you might not be adequately covered for - then theres the markey value payout on your boat (will it be enough to replace it with same?)

Plus you lose your no claims bonus - your premiums for your replacement boat go up coz you've now had a claim within the last 5 years etc etc etc.

All this canbe avoided - with just a simple tracker unit!

It takes batterys you replace each 4 weeks (months 25 days) and if anyone steals your boat they are toast!

One guy in Perths just been busted for his second time - stealing gear off building sites (new elec hot water systems)...thansk to micro trackers hidden inside the units! First time it was a first offence conviction so he just got big finme and good behaviour bond / comunity service etc and parole..

Didn't know how he was caught the first time (by use of the tracker unit) - so figured he was just unlucky, and someone musta dobbed him in! So he tried again while on probation/parole/good behaviour bond call it what you will - and got done again!

Thats what you call a 2 time loser!

You guys can protect these new rocketsleds from theft you know - you don't HAVE to be victims!

So - as well as being your insurance agent - I'm also an agent for Boat Bandit, Bike Bandit & Car Bandit GPS GSM trackers for the bigger boats, motorbikes and cars and Microtrac for small boats or fixed plant like expensive generators etc...epensive electronics etc in your home.

Anyone wants boat insurance quote, or vessel security products like Boat Bandit or Microtrak has only to IM me email me or ask me here - or get onto my website http://www.flywest.com.au

Heck even my forums if you want! http://z7.invisionfree.com/Fly_West/index.php?act=idx

It's not like the products and knowlege aren't available to you all.

The thing I can tell you is this!

It's too late to ask me AFTER your boats been stolen!

You know - the savings on your insurance policy over a couple 3 years might actually pay for the microtracker to keep tabs on your boat!

Is there ANY excuse given those circumstances - NOT to have one?

Always happy to help in any way I can and for Breamers who mention Breammaster, I'll knock $20% off recommended retail for any Boat, Bike, Car Bandit system or Microtrac product!

You just have to ask is all!

I've a Boat Bandit system in my boat and am happy to demonstrate what these things can do for anyone doesn't understand fully how they work etc

I will even bring the boat along for you guys in say Mandurah for a breamers day out so you can all have a looksee and ask / have answered any questions you may have, if theres enough interest!

Cheers!

Trouty they seen like a great idea

One question - I know with my GPS as soon as you go under a bridge, indoors, shed, garage etc you loose satellite coverage. How do these units get around this problem? Surely it would need some awesome reciever to pick up satellites under these circumstances? Does it give last known position before the signal is lost?

Cheers

Thumbs up Link

Theres a LINK to my website guys under the photo of my boat in my signature - from there is a link in the menu at left, to the forum!

(Ohhh yes I did miss the .au sorry!)

Umm sending and recieving GPS data are two different things!

Sending needs a pretty good view (unobstructed) of the sky, so sattelite phones etc need unobstructed viewof the satts...to work well.

Older recievers (GPS units) likewise needed pretty good views also, and I recall my first hand held GPS wouldn't even work under tree canopy.

That said the company who make these trackers - manufacture specifically Antennae's / aerials - for many many companys thoughout the world!

Look at their website http://www.rojone.com.au.

Their latest microtracker has one of the most sensitive aerials - and they've been tuning them to recieve signals while inside your house - thru the ceilings and tile roofs etc...that shows how sensitive they are getting to be today!

The thing is the microtracker - sleeps 24 hours - wakes up for a few seconds, checks it's position to see it hasn't "moved" then if it hasn't, it goes back to sleep.

So it is designed to do this from say inside your TV in your loungeroom! (or inside your boat - in it's garage / shed / car port).

It is only if it comes on, and detects that it's moved from it's programmed home location, that it rings you.

Conversely - if you ring IT, (because you notice your boats been stolen within the first 24 hours and it hasn't woken up yet and realised itself that it's moved yet) then it 'wakes up' on recieving the call - tracks itself for it's new position and tells you what that is!

Go to this link!

http://www.ezitrak.com.au/aa-et_manuals.htm

and hit the EziTrak® MICRO PDF. link and you'll get a pdf file of the operating manual - that will tell you everything this lil baby can do!

For something the size of about 3 matchboxes it realy is pretty amazing!

Ohh coverage?
Ahh yeah - anywhere that GSM mobile phone coverage works!
There is a Map somewhere on the Telstra site showing these area's I'll dig up a link - you in WA?

http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/net...te=8&network=0

Cheers!
