I looked at the motor on my tinny and didn't like travelling with all the motor weight supported on the transom. Being allumium I was concerned that the bouncing over time would eventually lead to cracks in the transom. I know its designed to take the weight but figured it still could be good for it.
So I bought the standard V support which connects the trailer to my motor - down to the trailer - so the motors weight is on the trailer not the transom. Ocky strap over the motor to hold it into the support. Haven't really considered road vibrations transfered to the motor from the trailer - but mines only an 18hp and not hydraulic so I guess it wouldn't be an issue. Crusty

Love ya story Slazmo!
Just casting, r u using the Lock n Haul? If so what size outboard on which boat? Ringsk I take it that your unit is home made? Nether the less, I can assume with it being the 'H' shape it's as solid as a rock? Renovator, I can c y u use a block of wood c'mon I had to say it Crusty ur probably in the same boat as Ctwright, u blokes would more than likely get away with ur methods having very light wt outboards, at least u r supporting it in someway! |

I'll be upgrading to a Bass boat soon, with a decent outboard (probably 150hp) Very interested in this subject because I have heard of people having a few issues.
Maybe I just need a Lock n Haul and I won't have to worry about it! |

i always thought that using the lock tabs, that came with the motor, or a piece of wood, never helped support the transom of the boat, that was carrying the load, i made my own, and never had a problem
cheers stuart

cheers stuart[/QUOTE] Is this where we need to clarify what we should be intending to do. I may also gain knowledge ,,and that's always good. My block of pine is not to support the transom but to stop the motor jumping around. The motor is secured to the transom, that is part of the boat. The boat is secured to the trailer that is sometimes not secured to the road. Everything moves as one ,,we have security. |

Thanks for the chat Scott! (and thanks to Mark Healy for the recommendation!)
Also just bought one and looking forward to using it in the future. Will post up a pic of how mine sits with the new engine. Cheers, Paul
