2003 5hp honda 4 stroke

Hey folks, looking at an '03 model 5hp honda 4 stroke to fit my dad's tinny for his birthday this week. Just after info on any commonly known issues with them and just all round knowledge on the motor, economy, reliability etc.

Cheers.

Hi mate, had an 03 25hp and it was a sweet engine, super quiet and smooth (carby model too). As long as its been maintained correctly you shouldn't have any dramas. Only negative I can think is slightly more expensive to service using genuine parts, but really all four strokes cost a little more, well worth it though.
Not that many honda dealers compared to other brands but still shouldn't have a drama finding someone local.

Nice gift btw, hope my boys look after me the same when they grow up

Not sure if it's anything to go by but I have an 06 BF115 Injected four on my boat and it's a pearler, barely hear it running, excellent on fuel and plenty of power. Haven't had it long enough to give you the whole reliability side of things though. If it's been looked after and in good condition then go for it
