I threw (cast) my custom G-Loomis s842 and brand new shimano sustain 2500 in to the Mitchell River at the Teams grandfinal a couple of weeks ago. I had no hesitation in nuding up and going for a swim. The water was pitch black, freezing and 4m deep. A few white whales later and I found it resting on the bottom. Much to the amusment of the cars driving by and my fishing partner.

Christmas day last year I snapped a samurai 101 in the morning due to a massive grouper (100kg +) deciding my coral trout was breakfast. No big deal took 3 rods with me on the trip.

Only to go back at night and have the same thing happen with my samurai 351. Pretty much 1K worth of rods done over in a day, lesson learned, dont take bream tackle to the Whitsundays and expect it to all come home....

Lucky it was at a Club med, free booze can do wonders for broken rods I found out...

Bass fishing one day in an old sit in yak , hit a log going down some rapids . Lost the iPhone , a box of lures and the hilux keys . Was an hour from home so had to pull someone over so I could ring the missus to bring my spare keys to me .

Fishing up in exmouth.

Hooked a 25kg GT, snapped my handcrafted p.e 8 Illex stick bait rod. $900 accident.

4 casts later my cousin hooked my p.e 5 illex handcrafted outfit while casting a popper and snapped it into 6 pieces. That hurt.

1500 in a day ouch.

Worst for me now is a certate (2010 model) spooled with brand new Unitika Aoriika on a 6’6’’ nitro vapor. Went in from the rod holder when I stopped fishing for flatties and went for deep water squid. Stoopid Squid

Earlier in the Year Lost a box with almost all my breamin perchin and troutin lures around 300 lures ave $$ somewhere btw $20-30 per lure. The Pain was real. But thanks to kind folk on here and another site who generously donated some lures to me, and to my understanding wife who loosened the purse strings I'm almost back witha decent collection.

I've had a trion combo stolen (not sure what reel) worth over $200.
Another time I had a bag full of fishing equipment, stolen too! Worth over $300.
But I now consider myself luckily compared to these stories I'm hearing.

last christmas one of my uni buddies was visiting and I found some big slimies going nuts on the surface so I began throwing slugs then passing him the rod to wind and then i'd cast mine. The one time I let him cast he throws an brand new spellbinder/freams combo into the drink... I said jump in and get it, he said i'll buy you a new one... I said its f'n 500 dollars! and dived in after it, swam down 2 metres grabbed it (almost lost me sunnie/hat) and jump back onto the back of the boat cause i'm sure sharks were not too far away!... My mate said he'd never seen me move so fast! lol
