will chuck pics up tonight but i'll try explaining it. It's a broom handle with a slight notch carved in it and a hole drilled. the spear tip is a single prong with a 90 degree bend in it that slots into the hole when the prong is in the notch. Just wanting to put some binding around it to secure it a bit better.

You can get a Otter brand 304 stainless steel wire, I have a couple of bails of it very strong stuff - that would be better with the steel on the spear head...

I wound it around a gaff 10 years ago and its still going strong today, cant complain with that....not that i catch many fish worthy of gaffing

Cheers Alex
It will be easier with the pics but with spear making, metal wire seems to be the go.

Its strengthens the shaft around the impact zone. There are some video's where you drill a hole down the middle of a wooden shaft. In goes the spear head, then they wrap tightly with fencing wire a fair way down the shaft. Then they bang a nail next to the shaft of the spear head to tighten it all up.

Due to the impact of driving the spear into rock while spearing fish, and that they throw the spear - everything has to be symmetrical and strong so the spear handle doesnt shatter near the tip.

Or you can cut notches in the side of the spear shaft like this video

Why the man burned the stick before turning it into a spear? is that easier to bent it?
