24v minn kota

setting up an 80lb bow mount and curious as to what batteries to run, was thinking a pair of of 130 amp should do the job but still undecided as to what charger to buy, any recommendations? cheers

Hey slayed,

im no battery expert but i run a 24 volt motorguide on my boat. I would recommend a 24 volt charger so you can leave your baterrys linked when you charge them, its a pain in the but having to charge batterys one at a time (which is wat im currently doing)

Another option is a twin bank 12V charger so you just disconnect the link between the two and turn the charger on. Each battery gets one bank of leads (pos and neg) I have a twin bank 8 amp charger on my boat with 4 amps per bank. Not the greatest size for two batteries so I leave both banks on one battery and use a portable charger for the other. Cant wait to get back into a 12v leccy setup so can run the voltage sensitive relay again.

Did a bit of research today at work. Found a pretty good 24v charger that can be mounted to the boat. Its called a C-Tec charger. I use a 12v one for my various 12v applications and it is excellent. Didn't know they made a 24v one til today. Pretty pricey tho

Your looking at the XT14000 I'm guessing.....great charger and well worth the dollars. I was recommended by a few tourney guys who swear by them. Can pick them up for around $400. Just consider mounting in the boat...its a harsh environment for what is quite a sensitive bit of kit. I haven't mounted mine and I can't say its a drama.

Mate, I run a 24 volt minn-kota with sealed batteries, and I bought a 6/12/24 volt charger that has another switch for lead acid/sealed batteries I then made up a second set of leads with a minn-kota plug on the end, simply select 24 volts, switch it to sealed and plug it into the minn-kota socket. no messing around with opening battery boxes, crocodile clips or anything, works for me.

There should be a release of an onboard 24/36V charger next month in Fishing monthly and I believe a couple of the top tourni chaps are already fitted with them and they charge off the outboard and can also be rigged to charge of the tow vehicle so they convert 12V to 24 or 36V so if you have an existing 12V charger you can use this to charge through the unit to charge 24V.
It is fully potted and waterproof.

Thumbs up

I run a C-Tec XT1400 24v Charger and it has been great i have a minn kota mirenco plug attached and i just plug it in at the end of the day always ready to go when you need it.
you can leave it on till the next time you go out.
i would not mount it in the boat as its just as easy to just plug in and forget.
Bouncing around all day mounted in you boat will shorten its life
two thumbs up fo this unit
