Thoughts on this knot?

G'day,

Been playing around and researching different joining knots, after ending up with quite bulky knots tying 4lb nano to 6lb vanish using a double uni. The nano section of the knot is quite slim no worries, but the fluro side is a bit chunky. After realising a blood knot ends up quite slim ended with this - a Blood to Uni joining knot. Let me know if it exists?

Basically, you double the lines over like normal, with the braid tag, tie a uni knot with as many wraps as you like (I use 8 quite successfully), tighten it up, then flip it around and on the fluro tag tie a half blood knot instead of another uni (5-6 wraps does it I reckon).

Thoughts and does it exist?

Will test it out this arvo when the wind dies down a little...

Well I gave it a go, it worked and did slim the knot down a bit, but the blood knot needed 10 wraps to not slip. Did get some improvement with casting, but not perfect. Seems it's more important to get the leader diameter right

On a side note, Vanish has got to have to one of the biggest diameter:breaking strain ratio out there. I've got 5lb icon that's 0.17mm and 6lb vanish is .25mm

If you want a slim knot and don't want to go to the bother of an FG, give the slim beauty a go. After a bit of practice it's quick and easy to tie and a hell of a lot slimmer than the knots you're talking about.

+1 for slim beauty knot in an array of line classes

I do like the fg though, but when you need a quick and strong knot, slim it!!

I had a go at the sb knot with 2 bits of mono and it didn't look that slim, but I can see now how it would go a lot better with braid/nano. Cheers, will give it a try

Good to try new knots but if you want to go further Nano works a treat with the FG.

Thanks seamonkey, as good as the FG looks it also looks like a pain. Does it end up very slim?

the slim beauty also doesn't work that good with Nano, breaks fairly easily. I like my leader knots quick, a double uni takes about 10 seconds, but I tied this uni to blood knot with my 5lb and it looks really nice so I think i'll run with it

Fg is slimmmmm its a single piece of leader material wrapped in braid. Can be a pain to tie but.... so neat and being a single piece straight thru of leader is full knot strength. .... I tie this at home before I go and then on the water tie slim beauty's because its quicker and tryin to keep tension in a yak or a bumpy boat can be frustrating... If the knot you have made is working for you dont change..... only change if you are un happy with something...

Good luck bud

Thanks ill give it a go. Its only really for the 0.25 leader for when theres flatties around.

And clay you're right 4lb rock does solve the problem. Could just stick with that and pray I dont get gobbed.
