Bream/bass rod for topwaters & small hardbodies
Hi all; what do you recommend? I have a budget to $700. I had a look at a Daiwa Battler Beowulf the other day and was impressed. Would like something with a bit of power to extract fish out of racks and snags etc but don't want to pull the hooks - would a Battler Feral Kat suit?

Dobyns sierra 700sf 2-8lb. With the full cork grip. Great blank. Plenty of power but easy to finesse smaller lures. Very very nice rod. Balances great with a 2506 daiwa or even a 2xxx sized daiwa.

Bayliner CF 6'8" from SMITH is hands down the best rod I have ever used for small hardbodies and topwater lures, makes a bent minnow dance easy as pie.

Just focussing on topwater/surface then either the Edge ISR701-1 or if you want a bit more power then the ISR702-1.
Found both to be great for topwater. Largest lures I've thrown on each has been dog-x jrs. Both are great for jerkbaits as well Last edited by warren63; 14-03-2018 at 12:36 AM. |

Adding to the above I do recommend the Torz Kurodai in the JML range for bream cranking. I use mine with a Luvias 2506 and use either braid or straight thru.

Thanks all. Now to find these rods and give them a shake in the shop before buying - does anyone know of a shop in Sydney that carries any of these?

As an aside if you were looking for a custom rod then Stephen Duff may be a good way to go. I have one of his X series rods and this may suit your needs as well. Regards HBt.

Cut 2" off the handle? Why not just buy the S/H version, or are you cutting from the short one?

S/H version not available when I cut my DSR down Assuming the S/H blank is the same then that would be the buy Regards HBt.
