Honda 130- Blocked speedo sender/pick up

Hi guys,

Noticed the speedo on the dash doesn't work, since I bought my boat in December.

The little pickup at the front of the leg was full of crud. Cleaned at best I can with Mig wire etc, but its still blocked.

Do I have to remove the lower leg to clean it out properly????

Cheers,

Pat

Hi Pat

NO you don,t need to remove leg
only do as a last resort and really
you might not even be able to get into the area to clean it out anyway.without pulling lots of stuff off
also cost of replacing some gaskets etc

I have recently had a bit of timber/stick or drift wood stick in my yamaha one
my process was.

*clean as much as possible with fine wire.
*find join in tube near the top mounting area usally where they would connect the tubes
once motor has been mounted and remove cable ties normally.(worst case remove off the back of the speedo
but it is better the closer to the end where the issue is.as the tube will expand under pressure).
* use compressed air to blow down the tube forcing the crud back out the way it came in.
*still wasn,t great
*so i then found a 1.5mm or 1mm drill bit and by hand twisted it in by hand whilst pulling back to pull the junk out.
*repeated the compressed air. Which then was a little better.
*not 100% right so i gave it another go with drill bit and compressed air and pop
out she came

*and just double checked a last go and now is all good.

I hope this helps

Please note using compressed air in this manner can be dangerous take care and use safety glasses.do not get down the the little bit at front of leg whilst the tube is under air pressure.
I was using approx 110PSI of pressure

Cheers mate, will give the drill bit a go.
With fine wire from the top, I can get to within 50mm of where the pickup is, which is a 300mm down the hole......
