Breaming Community Trades Directory

Is there any chance we could have a Trades Directory within the Bream Classifieds like some of the other forums do?

To me there seems to be a 'bream community' in Perth and this community seems to know or know of each other either through the comps or the Forums. The Trades Directory would encourage people to support each other.

I for one would rather get a trades person from here than to find a total stranger from the white pages. Soon I may need to get hold of several trades persons and I would rather support people I know and trust. As you know other forums have it but that forum supports the whole of WA and basically they are still strangers off the street if you know what I mean. Maybe one for Perth and another for the other states?

Just a thought.

Not a bad idea Carol. I would prefer it moderated for several reasons, but I'll give it a go. Let you know when it's available.

Rather than tips we are working on some good how to videos that members can download. Things like knots, casting techniques, that sort of thing. As this sort of thing does take time I'll spread them out a bit, but hope to have some up soon.

All the early stuff disappeared with a certain former owner so it's a case of start again. I'm going through the comp work from last year to add as well, it just all takes time.

What ever happened with these videos?

maybe there could be a section designated for sponsors to put up videos of how to use their products, popular animated knots and the like. would be great for the newbies to browse through when just starting out or for the more experienced when they want to try something new.

A suggestion that might save some confusion, would it be possible for the owners of BM to clearly outline perhaps with a "Sticky" of what members and sponsors can and can't link out to, we for one are definately confused??

I think that also linking out to non sponsor businesses or OS or local Online stores is really a slap in the face for the businesses that do sponsor the site and we need clear guidelines about this "Is it OK" or "Not OK"?

Hope this is seen as a constructive suggestion.

I'm not entirely sure how it would work, but is there any way that an rss feed could be set up to feed the latest posts, or the most popular posts, so members can subscribe to the feed?
Like I say, i don't know if it would work, just thought i'd ask.

Another option I've been looking into is to have a iGoogle app that does similar. DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh do similar so you get their specials when you used you iGoogle page. All ideas welcome and I'll look more into RSS.

Donations

I have PMed a couple of people in the past regarding possibly paying something back to BM (in my case for using the classified section as much as anything). Do you guys have Paypal or similar, even if you put a small paypal link in the page somewhere so that folks can drop something in if they so feel? Whether it be $5, $50 or $500?

I am not sure if you are structured purely as a business and if so how you would do it, but I personally want to give something back if it assists and encourages those that run the site to keep up the good work.

Any thoughts as to whether this is possible/desirable?

Cheers
TB

Rss

Hey Bear,

Just FYI and tell me if you already know this but setting RSS up is easy, like HTML for people with no code experience, you just need an editor. I use Feed For All and it is simple as. RSS updates in a matter of minutes.

Good luck with it.
TB

PS- RSS is good for site info you wish to send out but having reread the original post it may not be as easy for keeping people informed as to when posts are updated unless there is a plug in etc to allow this functionality. This is just my laymans take on how things might work based on using RSS in the past to alert clients of special events.
